HVAC Steps After Mold Treatment
According the to Environment Protection Agency, 40% of American homes will deal with mold at some point. Mold can become a serious problem that can lead to many health problems. It is important to seek remedy as soon as possible.
After a home owner has undergone treatment for mold, we recommend a few steps to take with your HVAC system before circulating air throughout your home.
Remove furniture in the room that was treated. When empty, ensure there is no sign of condensation or moisture. A dehumidifier might be a good way to ensure the treated room is dry enough.
After treatment and the room is dry for at least 24 hours, double check that all mold to removed from hard surfaces like walls, ceilings, floors, doors and windows. Do this and wait for at least 24 hours before starting up your HVAC system.
After successful treatment has been completed in full, we recommend installing a HEPA filter in your HVAC system. HEPA filters are great for trapping and preventing very small particles like mold from being circulated throughout your home. Be sure to change the filter regularly to ensure the cleanest distribution of airflow possible.
Remember that despite our best efforts to treat mold, there can still remain small spores that hang around after treatment. A HEPA filter with regular changes can go a long way in preventing the distribution of those micro spores from spreading to other rooms in your home.
